Watch TikTok star surprise Kamala Harris by singing Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’

TikTok star Harry Daniels has caught Kamala Harris off-guard by serenading her with a rendition of Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’. Check out the moment below.

The moment took place less than one day after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race over the weekend (July 21), and it was confirmed that vice president Kamala Harris would be representing the Democratic party in the upcoming election.

In a clip shared online, Daniels – a TikTok star who frequently goes viral for singing to celebrities at random run-ins – is seen meeting the Democratic candidate in a hallway, and proceeding to serenade her with the opening lines of the 2016 song.

“Y’all haters corny with that Illuminati mess / Paparazzi, catch my fly, and my cocky fresh / I’m so reckless when I rock my Givenchy dress,” he belted to Harris, as she looked back in disbelief.

It was a fitting choice of song too, as the Vice President had just made her first public appearance since Biden’s announcement, and arrived at her first campaign staff meeting in Delaware by walking out to another Queen Bey track: ‘Freedom’.

“Uh, hi?” she is seen saying to the influencer following the singing coming to an end. She was then quickly escorted into a room by her team, but can be heard asking them “Who is that guy?” before the door closed. Watch it all unfold below.

This wasn’t the first time that the TikTok star had managed to surprise-serenade a high-profile politician. Just months earlier, Daniels got social media talking after he managed to meet President Biden and greeted him by singing Lana Del Rey’s ‘National Anthem’.

In the video, Biden was seen smiling as Daniels sings the song, taken from Del Rey’s 2012 album, ‘Born To Die’. Daniels uploaded the video with a caption that read: “WE DID IT JOE,” adding, “Thank you president Biden for letting me sing to you.”

Before then, he stirred controversy after asking Barbie star America Ferrera an “immature and distasteful” question at the People’s Choice Awards. As the actors and musicians arrived for the event, the TikToker asked whether they would prefer a “gay son or thot daughter”. Ferrera responded: “Oh my god. Both? I don’t know.”

Almost immediately after announcing that she would be running in the ongoing Presidential election, a plethora of famous faces came forward to back Kamala in her bid, including John Legend – who called for the American public to “elect Kamala Harris as our President” – George Takei, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

It was the support from Charli XCX that drew the most attention, however, as the singer made a nod to the success of her latest album (and pop culture phenomenon) by sharing a tweet reading “Kamala IS brat”.

Soon afterwards, the politician’s team honed in on the support from the singer and launched a new Twitter banner in the style of Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’ artwork – leading to CNN having to explain the ‘Brat Summer’ trend to its viewers.

President Biden’s withdrawal from the Presidential race was shared on Sunday (July 21), and the 81-year-old plans to serve out the remainder of his term in office, which ends at noon on January 20 2025. He immediately endorsed Harris to be the next president of the US.

He explained that the decision was made “in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

A host of stars soon came out to respond to the political update, including Ariana Grande, Lizzo and Barbra Streisand, and outlets including Stereogum have reported that Harris’ campaign raised a reported $81million in the 24 hours since Biden dropped out. If that figure is true, it will be the largest single-day total raised by any candidate in US history.
